Chromatin, Inc. Receives Governor's Export Award

Oct 28th, 2014

Chicago, IL—Chromatin, Inc., a leading agriculture technology company headquartered in Illinois, announced today it has received a 2014 State of Illinois Governor’s Export Award for Agricultural Business Exporter.

The Governor’s Export Awards are the State of Illinois’ highest recognition of export achievement. This year Chromatin, along with Archer Daniels Midland Co., were recognized for outstanding export achievement in the field of agricultural products, services, and technology.

Governor Pat Quinn congratulated the companies and organizations chosen to receive the 2014 Export Awards and in a press release on Oct. 24, 2014 said, “Illinois exports have increased by 58 percent since 2009 and have created many jobs across the state. We’re honoring these companies because they have helped the state reach more than $60 billion in exports in each of the last three years – by far the most we’ve ever exported.”

Charles Miller, Chromatin’s Director of Business Development & International Sales said, “Our team is proud to have our export achievements recognized by the Governor and the State of Illinois. Chromatin consistently provides industry-leading sorghum hybrids to over 38 countries around the world and we strongly believe that we can change the world with sorghum.”

Sorghum is uniquely able to conserve water resources while producing high yields of grain and biomass on marginal land. Chromatin began exporting hybrid sorghum seed in 2010, and its international business has grown rapidly since then, with markets in Asia, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.

Daphne Preuss, Chromatin’s CEO said, “Agriculture consumes over 70% of the world’s fresh water. Sorghum can replace crops that use larger quantities of water, providing an opportunity to conserve valuable water resources. The rapid growth in Chromatin’s export business confirms that the world’s farmers recognize the value of sorghum.”

The Governor’s Export Awards were presented at a reception on Oct. 23, 2014 at the Union League Club of Chicago. For more information on the awards, visit
